23rd Teddy Bear [Voice/Action]

[Elicia's been confused. Very confused. And it certainly didn't make it better than Sanji was gone, and that her family vanished from their 'home', and that now as she sits in her room with all her things, she wonders—wonders if they were all really that upset. After all, what's wrong with having lots of family here? Why did they all seem to be so sad, or angry, or bitter? She found papa here, where she'd otherwise've never seen him again. And then, she had sisters and a brother, and more uncles and more grandpas and even a great grandpa.

... Why don't any of you like that? What's wrong with having your old family and your new family?

She wondered if that's why big sis Nami was away. She wondered if that's why big bro Sanji was suddenly gone (ah, if only she understood the problems with why they're gone, each so very different and yet justifiable). She wondered if they were mad. Mad at her, maybe? Because she lied, even when she didn't mean to? Is that why Xion left in the early morning, and then Miya soon after? Is that why they all just walked away, like knowing it was fake was suddenly a reason to forget all the good, happy things they did?

I love you all! Why'd you go? What'd I do wrong?

She walks on her knees across her room, now back with papa (and what a relief, to have papa back, though she's still a little confused why he was granpapa), and picks up a piece of paper and draws it all out: the mikan festival, her papa's silly orange outfit, big bro Sanji caught up in his fatherly, brotherly ways, Sheena and Alexei and Zoro and everyone. She was so happy that day. That wasn't fake, she promises. She promises it wasn't fake! Even if they got a little confused about who was who, it was all real, and she really did love them all! And even if it's over and people remember things, she still loves you all!

That's all that matters!]

[Voice]

U-um...

[the buzz of silence, for a few seconds]

It's all real funny... Everything's real funny... B-but—!!

[another pause, like she's thinking, really thinking.

When she speaks up again, there's a determined, watery noise in her tone.]

But why's that mean it's gotta all go away? How come we can't have both? What's wrong with being families still?! I know it was just make pretend, b-but it wasn't! Don't all go away and not wanna be family no more... 'Cause p—'cause papa says you don't gotta be from the same family to be a real family! You don't! So please, still be my family here...

I want you guys to stay my family... Please, pretty please... 'cause I know me and papa want you to. 'Cause you're still my family, even if you don't wanna be mine...!

[another pause—she's full of them, it seems]

... Is it okay if I put my pictures on my wall, from when we picked fruits?

[Later on after school—what a lonely, quiet day it seemed, today—she sits in front of her real house, watching just how much this place seemed to be effected. It was sad. It was so sad, to see everyone so sad. She had to do something, something to make it happy! But what should she do? There's gotta be... something fun. Something that'd make people smile, like before! When she played giant robo!

Aha! Mama always said that when you give compliments, people feel better about themselves!

So she pulls out her New Feathers Stand and sits at it, except with a new sign (...proooobably with a little help from a certain papa. Judging by the spelling.):]

"FREE COMPLIMENTS!"

[Oh, you silly child. Miyabi laughs gently, quietly, then stops and hums for thought.]

Mm...I don't think you're bad at all, really. I'm not the best myself, either, but I'd be glad to teach you if you want to.

[Voice]

[identity profile] chiisaichou.livejournal.com 2011-05-02 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[Heh...was this how she was when she was little? Gods, she felt like she had swapped roles with Ishaku, her painting teacher, and the elder of Ponc'Tan. Well, if she was going to be a teacher, then--]

Hehe...well, if I'm going to be your teacher, then we both have to work hard. [A pause, then a smile.] Elicia, how about I teach you something from my home? It's a story...would you like to hear it?

[Voice]

[identity profile] chiisaichou.livejournal.com 2011-05-04 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
It's a story from my home. I draw the gods from Nippon - it's my duty and my honor. The story I want to tell you is about one of them, the sun goddess. ...Would you like to hear it?

[Voice]

[identity profile] chiisaichou.livejournal.com 2011-05-05 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
The sun goddess, Amaterasu, is a very important female god from my home. She rules over the earth and the heavens, and she's represented by the sun. [Technically she is the sun, but Miyabi's trying to make this easy for Elicia to understand.] She's going to be very important to this story...

[Which she begins...now. Seeing as how she's told this story before, Miyabi has the pictures she drew for them at the ready, placing one down, of a small, quaint little village.]

Long, long ago...a tiny hamlet known as Kamiki lay nestled in a grove of proud and beautiful cherry blossoms. [Don't know what one looks like? Well, Miyabi paints a circle on the page and...pop! One flutters down from the open pages of Elicia's journal.] Each and every tree around the quiet burg was honored as a god. However, the village was not without its dark secrets.

[Voice]

[identity profile] chiisaichou.livejournal.com 2011-05-05 12:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes...very scary, and very dangerous. [She drops her smile then, and draws what seems like a shadowy, black dragon with eight heads, descending on the village.]

To satiate the appetite of Orochi, a fearsome cave-dwelling beast, a young maiden was offered as a sacrifice at the annual festival. With a body like a mountain and eight heads mounted on necks the size of tree trunks, its blood-red eyes alone were said to curse anyone who gazed into them. ...No one dared to disobey the horrific beast.

[Voice]

[identity profile] chiisaichou.livejournal.com 2011-05-06 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Well...let's see that happens next. Maybe something good will happen. [Hehe, this is so cute. It was also so much like home, when this popular story was told to the poncle and Oina children. Elicia was just like them, and it made Miyabi smile.

She places a new picture on the page, of the village at a different angle, and a silhouette of a wolf standing beside it.]

When the night of the sacrifice drew near... A mysterious white wolf appeared outside the village. This wolf, its coat as brilliant as snow, was dubbed Shiranui. [She repeats the name, slowly.] The wolf kept a watchful eye on anyone who ventured outside the village, and made a habit of patrolling the streets at night. People assumed the wolf to be a familiar of Orochi.

[Voice]

[identity profile] chiisaichou.livejournal.com 2011-05-10 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
[Pff--snerk. Miyabi covers her mouth at the enunciated saying of Orochi's name, to smother her giggles. Elicia, you really are such a cute little thing.]

Shh, shh...let's find out. [She puts down another picture, this time of a large swordsman facing the wolf, his blade poised before him.] One villager took it upon himself to face the fearsome Shiranui. The warrior, Nagi, attempted many times to challenge the wolf. But his attempts were thwarted by Shiranui's swift movements.

[She removes the picture, then puts down another, this time of a simple looking little house.] Before long, the night of the accursed festival had arrived. A white plumed arrow heralded the coming sacrifice. Piercing the sky, the arrow sunk its shaft squarely into... [Miyabi paints an arrow, jutting out of the house, and thumps the desk she was leaning on, for effect.] ...the home of Nami, the village's most beautiful maiden.

[Voice]

[identity profile] chiisaichou.livejournal.com 2011-05-12 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
That's right. Nami, the most beautiful maiden. [Miyabi giggles, remembering when she actually told this story to the one Elicia was probably thinking of. Nami is always the most beautiful maiden. Those words always made her laugh.] Of course they will! We can't let her get gobbled up, right? Hehe, let me continue.

[She puts down a painting of two peoples' silhouettes, a man and woman, holding hands and facing eachother onto the page.] ...Nagi, harboring a secret love for Nami, was enraged by this sign. Determined to put an end to Orochi once and for all, Nagi traveled to the beast's cave in place of his beloved.

[The painting is removed, and another takes its place, this time of Nagi facing Orochi, blade held outward.] The Moon Cave, a place as dark as evil itself, served as Orochi's home. As Nagi stood bravely before the entrance...

[Pause for effect!] A beast appeared, eyes glowing crimson upon eight thrashing necks.

[Voice]

[identity profile] chiisaichou.livejournal.com 2011-05-14 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Orochi stood tall before him, anxious for another sacrifice. Nagi leapt with incredible grace, swinging his blade valiantly. On and on he sliced, into the moonless night... But Orochi's hide was like steel. The blade left nary a scratch.

[She removed the picture, putting another down, of Nahi leaning heavily on his sword, and the eight heads of the giant serpent closed in on him from all sides.]

At long last, Nagi, his energy spent from the intense battle, dropped to his knees, fatigued and gasping for breath. He knew he was staring death in the face.

[She paused, for effect again, then drew a wolf, standing between Nagi and Orochi.] It was then, that the wolf appeared.

As if to protect Nagi, it stood its ground before Orochi. In the darkness of the cave, the wolf's coat shone brilliantly. Alas, it was Shiranui, the wolf that dwelled outside the village. Baring its fearsome claws, Shiranui leapt toward Orochi. Orochi reared its terrifying heads, readying its fangs for battle. The two beasts struggled wildly, thrashing in the darkness.

Mhm, a very good guy. [Haha, a wolf hero? That's definitely something she had to remember. After putting a new image on the page, one of Orochi blowing flames and Shiraui leaping at him, Miyabi continues the tale. It's getting to the good parts.]

Mysterious and terrifying, the spectacle continued. Shiranui summoned gusts of divine wind to counter Orochi's flames. [She pulls the journal close, and blows into the audio piece, the "wind" blowing softly at Elicia's hair. Quickly, she swaps images, this time of Orochi closing in on the wolf, who stands firm.] As Orochi closed in on Shiraui, sharpened claws glistening... [She takes her brush, and drops a single blot of ink on the page, which glows a soft green and... pop! a tiny sprout erupts from the pages of Elicia's journal before disappearing a second later.] A gigantic tree sprouted forth, shielding the wolf.

Shiranui fought gallantly to gain the upper hand. However... Orochi, shielded by a mystical power, was not easily bested. Shiranui, covered in gashes, majestic coat dyed crimson, stood exhausted before the mighty Orochi.

Orochi saw a chance to strike what would be the final blow.

[Sh-Should she tell Elicia this story has a kinda sorta sad ending? Well, not quite, since...hrm. She'll get there when she gets there, and explain then. No sense in ruining the story now, just when it's getting good.

Miyabi places another painting down, of Shiranui with its head held high, letting loose a mighty howl. Nagi was standing beside it, sword held aloft.]

But Shiranui refused to give in. With its last ounce of strength, the majestic wolf gazed heavenward and unleashed a mighty howl. Suddenly, the black clouds overhead dissipated. [Then, she takes her brush, and some glistening yellow paint, drawing a single crescent in the sky above the two. Hm...is that paint glowing? No, surely not...] The light from above glinted off Nagi's sword as a beacon of hope.

[Another chage of pictures, this one of Nagi jumping high, sword poised and ready to strike, while Orochi looked off, fear and outrage in its eyes.] Guided by his sword, Nagi, who had been taking shelter in the shadows, stood proudly to face his adversary. Channeling all his strength into his scarred and battered arms, he leapt ferociously toward Orochi, his sword poised high. The golden sword danced in his hands like a puppet on a string. One by one, Orochi's fearsome heads separated from their owner.

Orochi's body collapsed in a lake of its own blood. In that instant, the curse that plagued the village was lifted. As the battle subsided, the sun shone once again in the sky...

[He voice doesn't sound happy though. The next part won't be a happy one - this ancient and famous legend has a bittersweet ending.]

[Voice]

[identity profile] chiisaichou.livejournal.com 2011-05-21 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
[Miyabi waits only a second or two, letting the silence linger for a bit, before she continues in a hushed and somber tone. Here's where it gets a little sad, but the story was a happy one.]

Shiranui had succumbed to Orochi's poison, and struggled to breathe. Nagi scooped the beast into his arms and returned to Kamiki. [A new painting, of the wolf, laying helpless on the ground, with concerned villagers around it.] When they reached the village, Shiranui was no longer moving. The village elder gently stroked the wolf's head. In response, Shiranui let out a hoarse and pitiful bark... Then closed its eyes and drifted off as if into slumber.

[Another painting, this time of what seems to be a shrine, a stone statue of the wolf under a sacred gate.] Peace had at last returned to Kamiki Village. In honor of Shiranui's heroic exploits, the villagers erected a shrine and placed a statue of the wolf within it. Nagi's sword was christened Tsukuyomi and placed inside the Moon Cave. The villagers all looked forward to an age of endless peace...

And that's the end of the legend. Did you like it, Elicia?
